Too Shea Or Not Too Shea? Jessicurl Review

*SIGH* I wanted soooo badly to like this...
I heard great thing about Jessicurl via friends and watching product reviews on Youtube. After much contemplation I decided to go out on a limb and pick this up at one of my favorite hair boutique's, Ecodermis and Wolfberry in Crown Heights. I often stop by when I want to treat myself to hair products that I can't typically find at my local beauty supply store. I heard and read nothing, but rave reviews about Jessicurl's product. This product being one of them.

I'm just gonna throw it out there and say I was thoroughly unimpressed and upset that this sucked so much!
This product is
  • Sulfate free
  • Free of parabens
  • No mineral oil (Petroleum)
  • No dyes
  • Cruelty free
  • Tested on curls, not animals
  • Vegan
One of the only pros about this conditioner for me was the ingredients:

  • Water,your hair's #1 moisturizer.
  • Horsetail herbHorsetail stems are imbued with ample silica and silicic acids;  the silica content helps strengthen weak, brittle, damaged hair, giving it vitality and shine with regular use.
  • Peppermint oilhelps to reduce excessive oil production by your scalp.
  • Rosemary oil, used for centuries in cultures worldwide to promote hair growth and delay the onset of gray hair.
  • Marshmallow Rootaccording to Practical Herbalism: Ordinary Plants with Extraordinary Powers, contain approximately “18-35% mucilaginous compounds.”

  • With amazing ingredients like this you'd think I'd have nothing to complain about, right? Well onto the cons let me break it down. I got no slip what so ever, I found that I had to reach for more conditioner just to coat my hair even while my hair was soaking wet. If I prepoo my hair with my oil blend the process it a tad bit easier, but barely.

The earthy, mentholated smell gave me a bit of headache. I plan on adding this to another deep conditioner so I can finish out the bottle and be done with it. For $17.99 I really wasn't happy. I felt like I completely wasted my money and I'm a bit hesitant about trying other Jessicurl products.

If you wanna go out on a limb and give it a try tell me how it worked for you.  Did you like it? Love it? or Chuck it? You can find this product at/on:
    • Ecodermis and Wolfberry (N.Y.C curlies)
