I figured for my first blog post I'd tap into my inner product junkie and review a product that I have a "love-hate-love" kind of relationship with. I picked up this for the second time not too long ago at Sally's Beauty. The first time I bought it, I quickly returned it because it just didn't have what I was looking for at the time. When choosing the right "cowash" things can get messy if you don't know what you're looking for. At the time I was new to cowashing and the fact that this product didn't sud up confused and baffled me. What kind of cleanser doesn't sud up? How is it supposed to clean my scalp? I didn't like it, #Pineapples. As my hair has gotten longer and I've been shampooing less and less when I came across this product again in Sally's I threw caution to the wind and picked it up (the fact that it was on sale also helped!)
According to their website, "Our All Natural Coconut Shea collection was developed to infuse and add moisture. Coconut Oil helps improve hair strength. Combined with Shea Butter, this collection will leave hair more manageable, strong, and nourished."
Before we get ahead of the game and I get into the nitty gritty, let's get into the basics about the products. The Cleansing Cowash is a sulfate free, no suds, gentle cleansing conditioner cream for removing residue and build up between regular washings to promote a healthy hair environment for growth. This product is:
- Sulfate free
- Free of parabens
- No mineral oil (Petroleum)
- No dyes
- Cruelty free
I inserted a shot of the ingredients, but the two stars of this product are coconut oil and shea butter. Now I won't lie and say product ingredients don't bother me, but I am a lot more lax when it comes to choosing products with harsher ingredients. I use what works for myself, my hair, and my pockets.I picked this product at my local Sally's for $8.99 (take off $2, it was on sale) for the price and the ingredients alone I'd say give it a try. It's hard finding quality products at quality prices. With ingredients like
- Water one of your hair's favorite moisturizers.
- Aloe Vera juice which can help tame frizz, hair loss and can reduce oiliness in the scalp.
- Shea butter a natural conditioner for dry hair that can soothe an irritated scalp and is often used as a sealant.
- Coconut oil the only oil actually able to penetrate your hair shaft and moisturize it from the inside out.

The consistency is very thick and creamy yet runny. The products consistency is comparable to As I Am's Coconut Cowash, but the two are very different. When washing with As I Am's product I find that my hair is squeaky clean, but my scalp not so much I'm always left with build up and residue on my scalp which results in an extra 20 mins. of washing in the shower. I've never been a fan of squeaky clean hair which is why I began cowashing in the first place. If I wanted squeaky clean hair I'd turn to old faithful, my Creme of Nature Argan Shampoo.
With this cleansing cowash my hair feels like butta! I love the subtle clean it gives my hair. I don't have to use a lot to get the results I want. I also suffer from having and oily scalp and I've noticed that since I've been using this the oiliness I used to feel in between was has substantially been reduced. I can actually give myself scalp massages without getting my fingers coated in oil. The creaminess of this helps literally melt my tangles away and finger detangling is no longer the hassle it once was, I find that because it's so creamy and moisturizing when I wash it out I still feel like it's coating my strands with out feeling tacky or slimy.
